The 2018 Shell Enthusiasts’ Holiday Party took place on Sunday December 9th at Sanibel Community House.
Participants began the afternoon with a Seashell Word Search designed by “Shelle Kelle” Covington, and a “Name the Holiday Shell” quiz created by Kim Short.
Participants were encouraged to wear holiday-decorated outfits and a wide range of zany gear was on display.
Our “Cephalopod of Ceremonies”, Clair Beckmann, (in her purple octopus hat!) kept the program moving along.
Representatives from the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club, the Shell Crafters, and the Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum brought greetings, followed by a delicious potluck lunch. With many dishes from which to choose, there was something to suit everyone’s taste. Karen Turner had ably worked with Community House staff and arranged the room set-up to keep the buffet line flowing. Every attendee’s place was set with a festively-wrapped and candy-filled cockle shell, and there was enough extra chocolate on the table to guarantee a sugar high!
Four brave beachcombers (Lori Fanning, Barb Witty, Karen Silverstein, and Kim Short) sang Christmas songs they had suitably altered with shell words. For her effort, each woman was awarded a beautiful glass ornament shaped like a junonia – what else!
The party concluded with a lively and good-natured Yankee Swap gift exchange.
Many thanks to the committee: Clair Beckmann, Kelle Covington, Kim Short, Karen Silverstein and Karen Turner for a fun and successful event.
