We were thrilled by the response to the call for photos for our Shell Photo Contest. Thanks to the over 300 photos from 15 countries, YOUR photos will be featured prominently in the Virtual 2021 Sanibel Shell Show.
The Virtual Shell Show Committee blindly judged all the photos and selected a finalist in each of the 7 categories.
PHOTO SLIDESHOWS
All submitted photos are grouped by category. Each category’s slideshow will be shown at various times throughout the 2-day Virtual Shell Show. So if you submitted a photo in GASTROPODS for example, check the video schedule HERE to find out which day and hour your photo category will be playing and be watching to see YOUR PHOTO! Tell all your family and friends to be watching too. You’ll see each photo category’s slideshow on the video schedule. You won’t want to miss any of the stunning photos.
CATEGORY FINALISTS
During the Virtual 2021 Sanibel Shell Show on Mar 5+6 on our YouTube channel, the 7 photo contest finalists will be revealed, and we need YOUR VOTES to determine the People’s Choice Award for Best Photo of the show.
Photo slideshows of the 7 category FINALISTS will be shown on Friday March 5 between noon and 1pm EST and again between 2pm and 3pm EST. On Saturday March 6, you’ll get two more chances to see the category finalists: between noon and 1pm EST and again between 2pm and 3pm EST. See the hourly VIDEO SCHEDULE here.
VOTING FOR BEST PHOTO
Everyone can cast one vote for the Best Photo of the Show, but voting is only open from noon EST March 5 to 5pm EST March 6. After seeing the 7 finalists during the Virtual Shell Show, you may cast your vote by completing the online ballot, adding your comment on YouTube while the Virtual Show videos are playing, or you can email your vote to info@sanibelshellclub.com. One vote per person, per YouTube account, and per email address.
ONLINE BALLOT
The ONLINE BALLOT will be hidden until noon EST on March 5. Once voting is open, the ballot will display all the 7 finalists. Click on your favorite photo and hit SUBMIT to cast your vote. Voting closes at 5pm EST on March 6.
BEST PHOTO WINNERS
After voting closes at 5pm EST on March 6, we will tally all the votes from YouTube comments, email, and the online ballot. The Best Photo of the show and all the winners will be revealed on Monday March 8th. Subscribe to our website at the top of the webpage to receive notifications of all new posts, including the announcement of the Best Photo of the Show. And JOIN our club now so you don’t miss a thing.
As a surprise, we’ve also selected Honorable Mention winners for The Sanibel Stoop and Your Favorite Shell. Tune in during the Virtual Shell Show to see all the Stoop and Favorite Shell entries including the Honorable Mentions winners. All winners will be revealed on our website on Monday March 8.

The Shell Photo contest was a fun idea to involve our club members and the public as part of the 2021 Virtual Sanibel Shell Show which was created because the in-person shell show was cancelled. We’re hoping to have the 2022 Sanibel Shell Show back at the Community House next March.
