Summer Shell Club Field Trips

Hello  fellow  shell  lovers!  We have  had  a  few  people  attending our  meet-at-beach  outings!  More fun  get-togethers  are  planned.

Here are a couple of activities for shell club members only:

Friday,  June  17:  Boat  Trip  from Marco  Island  to  Keewaydin  Island for  shelling.  We  will  meet  at  7:45am  to  board  our Hemingway Water Shuttle boat for the short ride to the island. The cost is about $50. We will return to the harbor with our treasures  about noon. Reminder: There are no bathrooms on the island or the boat.

Keewaydin Island is a barrier island located within the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Reserve. It is bordered by a small waterway to the east and the Gulf of Mexico to the west. The island is currently 15% privately owned and 85% public lands. The island is only accessible by boat.

Tuesday June 21: Celebrate the First Day of Summer! We will have a “Meet and Greet” at Lighthouse Beach at the picnic table area at 9am. Come and meet your fellow Shell Club members, especially our NEW members.

Your hosts will be Kathy Kenley talking about tides and kayak shelling and Linda Hines talking about shelling and our club benefits.

Bring your own snack and beverage plus any shells you need help identifying.

July Outing:  We hope to have another “Meet and Greet” in July and will provide details in a separate email.
