SANIBEL-CAPTIVA SHELL CLUB

 Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club Grant Program

Grant funding is intended to further the mission of the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club (SCSC) which is to promote the study of mollusks.  The SCSC was formed to exchanged information in the fields of conchology and malacology, to foster public education and intelligent conservation, and to encourage and support studies and research activities in those fields.  To date the SCSC has awarded over $400,000 in grants.

Grant funds awarded by the SCSC are used for research to enhance our knowledge of mollusk life history, environment and culture in a marine, freshwater, or terrestrial environment in southwest Florida.  Grant funds also are awarded for research related to conservation and water quality efforts related to the local Gulf of Mexico.

Furthermore, grant funds are awarded to foster public education in all of these fields.

Program Eligibility

The SCSC invites faculty, students, nonprofit organizations, and schools to submit applications for grants based on funding availability.  Generally, if grant applications are deemed complete and viable, funding amounts between $1,000 to $5,000 per grant application per year are awarded.

SCSC grant funds may be used alone or in combination with project funding from other sources.  Funds are not paid to an individual but rather are awarded to the associated school or nonprofit organization.
