Dr. Rick Batt and Dr. Robin have invited our club to visit their home in Cape Coral. They have an impressive collection of seashells and other marine life, plus a fossil and rock collection. His collection has spanned 60 years, having started collecting when his grandparents brought Philippine shells back from a souvenir shop in Florida when he was a child. He didn’t live near the beach until his retirement in the recent past.
Rick possesses a number of world or near world record specimens, especially his favorite, melo volutes. They are of a spectacular size! He also has many freak species – some of which really “went off the rails!” This usually occurs when the mantle is damaged or diseased.
