As the saying goes, “Time flies” and it certainly was the case for my 2019.
Here are a few Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club 2019 Highlights:
Current membership is 262; 61 new members joined in 2019. A big thank you to hard-working membership chair, Ramona Novitski.
Our annual Holiday Party on December 8 was attended by 80 merry-makers. Thanks to our fabulous Party team: Clair Beckmann, Karen Silverstein, Karen Turner, Kim Short.
Conchologists of America annual convention was held on Captiva in June, 2019. As COA Convention Chair Anne Joffe wrote in the October Junonia, ” There were many of our club members who helped make this meeting a huge success.” ” I really want to thank all of you! These meetings take about three years to plan. Without the help of the Club members and their enthusiasm, it would have never been a success. So, to all of you who helped in any way, I thank you very much, as does the entire COA Board of Directors.”
Over 3800 people attended the 82nd Sanibel Shell Show in 2019, an increase of 317 people from the 2018 Shell Show. The diverse 2019 ribbon winners came from 60 different cities, 23 different states, 4 different countries! Our sincere gratitude goes to Shell Show co-chairs Mary Burton and Joyce Matthys and the HUNDREDS of volunteers that make it happen.
Joyce Matthys published 7 amazing Junonia newsletters in 2019, each more informative and interesting than the last. All newsletters from December 2018 are posted on our website.
Total number of website views in 2019 was 15,465. Average views per day: 43
- Best ever: 516 in one day (during Shell Show week)
- 14 people left comments
- 58 people submitted questions (all were answered)
- 17 people have subscribed to our website to get email notifications each time there is a new post.
- Our anti-spam program blocked 2,221 malicious login attempts to our site and blocked 109 spam comments from getting through; it missed 2 spams (but I deleted them) for a 99% accuracy overall.
Goodbye to a wonderful 2019, and WELCOME to an even better NEW YEAR. May only good things happen in 2020.
