Here’s a glimpse into the content of one of the artistic videos.

Sailor’s Valentine Video by Suzanne Dietsch

In her wonderful video Suzanne Dietsch, professional shell mosaic artist, will show us how she designs and creates her very unique Sailor’s Valentines in her studio in rural Illinois.  Be watching for it sometime during the Mar 5+6 premiere of the Virtual 2021 Sanibel Shell Show on our club’s YouTube channel.

Suzanne Dietsch is outstanding in her field of mosaic shell art and Sailor’s Valentines.

She is known for her creative, three-dimensional approach to this craft. Her goal is to honor the nautical folk-art history of Sailor’s Valentines while creating a more personal, contemporary spin to this treasured 1800s art form.

Brittle stars, shark’s teeth, coral, shells urchin spines all come together in Suzanne’s art. Be watching on Mar 5+6 to see her video.

This  delightful video showcases Suzanne ‘s  valentines created from self-collected shells to fossils (this one includes loads of baby shark’s teeth), and a valentine  of sea stars (feather, brittle, twinkle and basket stars are all included). Watch for the teeny lady bug she added made out of a crab eye seed.

Suzanne Dietsch adds a bit of “life”to her mosaic shell art.

Learn how Suzanne draws out a pattern, selects shells based on her preferred three -color combination, then cleans, sorts and sizes shells, and proceeds to make her masterpieces which have won two People’s Choice awards, and blue ribbons from Philadelphia, Sarasota and Sanibel Shell Show. Suzanne teaches classes on how to make Valentines for the Nantucket Historical Association and also in Sarasota.

Special touches of unexpected elements and design make Suzanne Dietsch’s Sailor’s Valentines truly unique.
