You won’t want to miss it! NOTE: All attendees must wear masks at this meeting.
Speaker
We are pleased to introduce Dr. Duane Kauffman of the Sarasota Shell Club as our featured speaker. Dr. Kauffman’s presentation will focus on a few specific habitats within the marine ecosystem of the middle Florida Keys and the invertebrates they host.
Marine snails and other members of the phylum Mollusca interact within a complex ecosystem. Dr. Kauffman will share many photos of live small snails and a small selection of nudibranchs. A few photos of other invertebrates from the selected habitats will be included.
Bio
Duane up on a small dairy farm in the middle of Illinois, graduated from Goshen College, and completed a Ph. D. in social psychology at the University of Illinois. Taught at, and retired from, Goshen College. There he had the good fortune to become friends with two biologist faculty colleagues who had started a marine biology program in which he became involved and ultimately added to his teaching responsibilities. Fascinated by the tiny snails found in a clump of algae, Duane has focused on finding, photographing, and identifying very small species. He has recently completed an identification guide to some 150 micro species from western Florida. He is an active snowbird member of the Sarasota Shell Club, coordinates the activities at the “club table” at the Sarasota Shell Show, and has exhibited miniature shells at several shell shows.
